Video Reflection:
How did it impact you as a teacher and what do you need from this workshop to do that?
I am all for technology as a tool. "The death of education but the dawn of learning"??? I think it could be the death of social education which I value as a major part of what my role is as a teacher. How do we teach people to get along? My role as a teacher is maybe as much about real connections with students and teaching them to interact and learn as content. There are limits in real time as far as having everyone comment, contribute - but some of that may have to do with how we teach or other limitations of the school model. These sorts of interactions do not always happen through technology. I understand that there are "communities and relationships" that can occur via technology - I am not convinced that they necessarily promote real connections (students sitting together texting rather than talking to eachother or noticing the things around them). I am excited about the possibilities that technologies offer for real life experiences and getting outside of the limitations of the "brick and mortar" - but I am not excited about the loss of physical community. I don't want to just get together for the occasional "group project" - how do you assume that because someone gets along fine online they can suddenly get together and connect in a real space - sharing the scissors, communicating in a group, etc... In many ways I fear possiblity that we become more isolated and focused within our own particular community and interests and less exposed to other ideas - more specialized and less flexible. I'm not convinced that technologic, "global" pen pals makes real "community" - it is one type but there is something that can't be quantified in the real-time community. I can imagine what life is like on the other side of the world, but I have yet to really experience it - so we can have some communication, but maybe we should be conscious of the possibility of "superficial" relationships and community. I am very excited about the topportunities technology offers, but I am not ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Create a Rational for Integrating Technology
As a teacher and a learner, it is important to create a statement that explains why you are making this change to your teaching/learning approach. We have created a tool to facilitate this process. If you prefer to write your rational as a statement in paragraph or bulleted list format, feel free. In the workshop we will provide a paper copy to write, but the file is attached here as well as a resource.
